Target Audience- Reader Profile Survey
This is a sample of the questionnaire I created to be able to understand the target market for my magazine. The results of the survey enabled me to understand requirements and habits of music fan.
The first question is to understand what genres of music are most popular with the people I surveyed. I considered ages before I asked people to answer the questionnaire. This is because it is likely that with age tastes in music change. I aimed to ask mostly young people over the age of 18. This is because it is likely this age group have more of an income to be able to answer the question on concerts and the purchasing of singles and quite frankly have more of a interest to read about music.
I sampled 40 people with 20 males and 20 females to understand the differences in the tastes from gender.

Moodboard
This is a moodboard I created using front covers of Kerrang. Kerrang music magazine covers the genre of Rock music. I noticed a consistence colour theme throughout the covers of the magazine. However, before I designed my front cover I tried to emulate the Kerrang magazine in terms of their artists protrayed on the front cover. As you can see many of their artists are presented singing with their musical instruments ( with this genre of rock music the instruments are shown are mainly guitars).
It is clear the first glimpse of the front cover would need to protray a clear Rock genre of music. I have tried to manipulate the mise en scene with my front cover. Getting my artist to pose with his guitar. I encountered some problems during the process. As ive mentioned before ideally I would have liked to taken the photographs elsewhere with a better background, however due to the difficulties with my initial pictures I believe I still produced a decent display of pictures.
Photos taken front cover, and interview pages
This photo was taken in Crystal Palace park. As you can see it encountered some problems. The photo seems very clear on the camera, but due to the poor quality of the camera these pictures were not viable to be published on to the magazine.
The idea with these pictures was to set out a decent background in terms of the scenery. Despite editing the pictures the quality was still not good enough. I feel I had the right mise en scene with the pictures. Unfortunately I didn't realise the picture quality was bad until I processed them.
Therefore, I took other photos with a smiliar idea. The following photos taken have a much better quality. However, I wasn't able to capture a better background as I would have liked. To counter this problem I decided to edit the pictures and crop them onto a different background.
The mise en scene in these first two pictures attempts to protray my artist relaxing as if he was on an interview show on television. The pictures were taken in my artist’s lounge where he normally practises his music. Before I took these camera shots I sat in a position where he wouldn't be looking directly at the camera. My idea was to try and create a live interview as if it were to be recorded on video. I began the interview and I had to get another friend to be the camera man for this process and take the pictures. I did this because the pictures seemed more realistic; the camera man took several shots with varied camera angles and I selected the best suitable images for the page. My artist struggled to focus on an empty space at first as I attempted to take the pictures and interview him at the same time. I took close-up shots of the interview. I preferred these shots as he was sat on a long sofa as you see on Jonathan Ross' interview show. To assist me in these shots I searched some still camera shots of celebrities on ‘Friday Night with Jonathan Ross.’ This helped me picture a live interview set of images.
As you can clearly see, the qualities of the latter three pictures were much clearer. This made editing rather simple for my final pictures and poses. I would have liked to capture a more of a better background. This would be my only regret within these pictures. I have taken more camera shots, and I will present them with the edited designs for the magazine in the ‘Transformation Process.’
